Mickleover Sports U.19's v Hucknall Town U.19's
Played at Mickleover 13th September 2004-09-15
For the second week, Hucknall found themselves scoring five as they overcame a very competent Mickleover side to keep up their 100% start to the new campaign.
Both teams started brightly with chances at both ends and it was Mickleover who felt unhappy with the referee's display seeing two goals disallowed in the first 20 minutes due to marginal offside decisions and at times venting their anger at the officials. Carl Spencer tormented the home defence throughout and a good run down the right with a first time ball found no Hucknall striker on hand to finish however on the half hour, Antwon Bonnick latched onto a through ball to beat the oncoming Stones at the second attempt. 10 minutes later, a superb pass inside the full back found the overlapping Kyle McDermott who rifled an unstoppable drive past the keeper.
Mickleover immediately retaliated and Chris Moss found room and with only Tom Easom to beat, he pulled his shot wide. The second half saw the home side in the ascendancy and Easom was called into action twice as he saved another Moss effort then saved bravely at the impressively named Channon North's feet. In the 55th minute, Town were awarded a penalty when Bonnick was impeded by the home keeper and the lively Eugine Francis calmly slotted home.
Five minutes later, Francis doubled his tally, latching onto a Spencer through ball before beating Stones. Easom was again busy, saving twice in quick succession from Anthony Jackson, the second a brilliant one handed effort and Mickleover grabbed a lifeline after 70 minutes through North and two minutes later could have grabbed another as a goalmouth scramble eventually saw the ball cleared. Substitute Rorie Francis beat the offside trap on 82 minutes to complete the scoring for the locals and Mickleover's Colt Hughes rounded the evening off with a second consolation with the last kick of the game.
